Overview Of The Role:

  • The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for leading a team, executing mechanical activities on-site, and ensuring alignment with project goals. The role requires effective project and cost management, engineering oversight, adherence to quality and safety standards, and collaboration with various stakeholders. Success involves timely project completion, productivity monitoring, and maintaining safety and quality standards.

What You Will Do:

Project Management


  • Validate mechanical design and perform technical calculations.
  • Review project scope, specifications, tender clarifications, and other documents to identify value engineering opportunities and potential risks.
  • Liaise with stakeholders including main contractors, consultants, and clients to ensure project deliverables are met during engineering, execution, and project closeout.
  • Manage resources and execution planning, including material and labor requirements, timely ordering of materials, and arrangement of subcontractors.
  • Monitor progress and productivity on-site, taking corrective actions where necessary.
  • Manage installation and construction work to ensure high standards of workmanship.
  • Maximize efficient use of plant and equipment.
  • Coordinate with local authorities as needed, ensuring timely completion and handling of delay notifications.

Cost Management


  • Coordinate with a Quantity Surveyor to ensure variation works are captured and effective claims are made to increase project margins.
  • Identify and propose value engineering solutions to benefit all stakeholders and improve budgeted profit margins.
  • Ensure increase of overall profit margin by at least 2%.
  • Track variation claims as a percentage of project value and ensure approval rates against claimed values.

Engineering


  • Coordinate with engineers and drafting team for shop drawing submissions and approval, track progress via registers.
  • Work with engineers and procurement to finalize vendors and procure materials, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Resolve complex technical problems as necessary to complete design and construction satisfactorily.
  • Coordinate with other trades to verify equipment loads and notify of any changes.
  • Liaise with authorities for necessary approvals and remain up-to-date with regulations and standards.

Quality / Standards


  • Apply internal engineering standards and procedures to ensure consistent project delivery.
  • Maintain a 'Lessons Learned' register, sharing technical insights across the organization.
  • Develop method statements in line with project specifications.
  • Complete project closeout documentation efficiently.

Health, Safety & Environment


  • Ensure compliance with company and subcontractor HSE policies.
  • Report and assist in the investigation of personal injuries and incidents.
  • Participate actively in safety and environmental initiatives.
  • Complete Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) as required.


Required Skills To Be Successful:

  • Strong knowledge of MEP industry standards.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project, or Primavera.
  • Effective stakeholder communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage resources and execute cost-effective engineering solutions.

What Qualifies You For The Role:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2-5 years of experience in MEP contracting companies, with at least 3 years of experience in the UAE.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering design and regulations.
  • Proficiency in project planning, management, and cost management.
