Overview Of The Role:
- The Head of Legal acts as an in-house legal counsel for Al-Futtaim Group in Egypt, providing comprehensive legal advice and assistance across corporate, commercial, retail, property, construction, and contentious matters. The role involves a strong focus on real estate-related legal issues, ensuring legal documentation aligns with applicable laws and regulations. A critical aspect of the job is mitigating legal risks and overseeing both internal and external legal matters to support the organization's operations.
What You Will Do:
Business Divisions - Legal Support
- Ensure quality and legal compliance of property and construction documentation.
- Provide timely legal support to all business divisions.
- Manage landlord and tenant legal matters effectively.
Business Divisions Legal Advisory
- Offer timely, commercially practical advice on company or branch establishment.
- Handle licensing, import restrictions, trademarks, franchising, distribution, supply, and third-party agreements.
Corporate Governance and Company Secretarial Support
- Ensure timely incorporations, registrations, licences, and Board and shareholder documentation.
- Maintain accurate and current corporate records.
- Ensure compliance with company law.
Legal Risk Management and Compliance
- Identify and mitigate legal exposure early.
- Ensure compliance of Group companies and contractual documentation with applicable laws and regulations.
Disputes, Litigation and Arbitration
- Develop effective dispute strategies.
- Negotiate or resolve disputes amicably when possible.
- Ensure appropriate representation before courts, authorities, and arbitration.
- Effectively manage external counsel.
Legal Team Leadership and Capability
- Ensure high quality and consistency of legal work.
- Provide effective supervision and address development needs.
- Ensure timely delivery by the legal team.
Government Liaison and Regulatory Approvals
- Acquire and maintain licences and approvals required for Group companies and their businesses.
Required Skills To Be Successful:
- Strong knowledge of Egyptian legal frameworks related to real estate, corporate, and regulatory matters.
- Proficiency in contract drafting, review, and negotiation for various agreements.
- Capability in litigation, arbitration, and overall dispute management.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with strong commercial acumen.
What Qualifies You For The Role:
- Degree in Law and professional legal qualification.
- Admission to practice as a lawyer/attorney in Egypt.
- Minimum 20 years of relevant legal experience across various sectors including property, corporate, and commercial.
- Expertise in supervising legal teams and working with external counsel.
