Overview Of The Role:
- The IKEA Commis assists cooks in daily food production, ensuring adherence to food safety regulations for the safe preparation of meals. The role involves customer-focused service, maintaining high quality and safety standards, and contributing to the operational and commercial success of the IKEA food business. As part of the team, the Commis will support the Chef, manage resources effectively, and engage in continuous improvement practices.
What You Will Do:
Customers
- Ensure our guests are always in focus, striving to make them smile and serving them with empathy and care.
- Lead by example as a good ambassador for the IKEA store, encouraging guests to return.
- Maintain daily dialogue with guests to gather feedback, learn their needs, and act accordingly.
- Ensure guests have a great shopping experience throughout the day.
Commercial
- Coordinate the area of food safety in the store.
- Ensure IKEA Food Safety programs are implemented and followed.
- Build relationships with national and local authorities, auditors, and suppliers regarding food safety.
- Stay updated on current and upcoming national legislation on food safety.
- Ensure all IKEA FOOD co-workers are familiar with CASY (incident reporting).
- Guide the IKEA FOOD Team in emergency management procedures.
- Initiate and follow up on investigations regarding food safety incidents.
People
- Work with the Chef to enhance knowledge and expertise in food production.
- Ensure correct use of equipment, report breakdowns or failures.
- Attend food safety training and other relevant sessions.
- Perform other related functions as assigned.
Steering the Business
- Work actively to make the IKEA store successful, achieving sales growth and profitability.
- Ensure satisfaction of guests and co-workers, and excellent operational performance measured by KPIs.
- Implement and follow SOP rules and guidelines.
Operations
- Implement systems and methods stated in IKEA Concept Documentation at the Restaurant, Bistro, etc.
- Ensure availability and quality of ingredients for timely food production.
- Produce high-quality food by following standard recipes and correct ingredients.
- Follow food safety rules to ensure safe production and storage.
- Maintain cleanliness of work station as per cleaning schedules.
- Cook/prep food as per production schedule allocated by the Chef.
- Direct preparation, cooking, and presentation of dishes, ensuring health and hygiene standards.
- Ensure equipment and machinery are well maintained, with preventive maintenance in place.
- Perform additional related functions as necessary, utilizing IKEA Concept tools and best practices.
Required Skills To Be Successful:

What Qualifies You For The Role:
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in a service environment, ideally sales or hospitality.
- Secondary degree required.
- Interest and knowledge in the culinary or food service industry.
- Strong customer focus and ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced, and dynamic retail environment.
- Multitasking capabilities and computer literacy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven leadership abilities and ability to motivate the organization.
